Tenacious- Tending to keep a firm hold of something: clinging or adhering closely. Not readily relinquishing a position, principle, course of action: determined.
This definition reminds me of a certain breed of dog named the Pitbull. Now being a lover of animals although having some episodes growing up with being chased by a couple of dogs when I was little, I still never stopped loving them but….. I still kept those memories into my adult life and it made me cautious about them whenever I first met any type of dog. Okay, so you know how you hear things about animals but you don’t really know you just go by what you’ve heard? (Have to change that!) Well, I have always heard that if you ever get bitten by a Pitbull that they have a locking jaw mechanism that can hold on to you in such a way that you can’t get out of it! What!? So after hearing this I took it upon myself to let fear settle in about something that was not true.
What I did find out was that although they don’t have a “locking jaw” mechanism, they do have the ability and the CHOICE to grab hold of their target and refuse to let go. Unfortunately, at times if what was being targeted expired, they still may DECIDE to not let go. Wow!!
Now I am not in any way against this animal because God created it as He has us, and just as we are designed for purpose and have to fight and protect at times, so do they. You have to admit though, although I would never want to be in a situation where I had to defend myself against any animal that had decided that I might make a great snack, I do believe that once we set ourselves on being determined to get something, we can achieve anything.
So, I would like to propose a question to you: how tenacious are you, or have you been with having a relationship with God? Are you like the Pitbull that can CHOOSE to hold on to it, or do you sometimes DECIDE to let it go when there are things going on in your life, business, family, or home? Are you clinging to it, refusing to relinquish any part of it, or is it just a substandard part of your life that you use through your emotions when things are not going so well?
I ask because I was one of the ones that jumped in and out of a real relationship with God because I really didn’t know that I didn’t have one, and to top it all off, I had religion to cover me up. (We’ll talk about that later) After all, I was a churchgoer; I knew some scriptures and would quote them out loud when I needed to hear them, to pump myself up about something that may have been falling apart. I thought I was good, but really I was emotional, living out of my flesh. Meaning, I was going through the motions of what I thought was right, and that’s not to say that going to church and saying scripture is wrong but... It was coming from me doing it according to what I thought was right, yet nothing was changing in my life.
It was a routine y’all. I could go to church, learn scripture, and that was the end of it. I came back the same after service. Nothing had changed with the way I thought, the things I would say, there was no HEART change. I was deceived in thinking because I was a member of a church and had accepted Jesus as my Savior that I was okay, but I was so far from True Living. I had no idea that this whole salvation thing meant something completely different. I was about to learn that me saying I accepted Jesus to come into my life meant that I had to Give Up my life and get introduced to Living through a life that I had been given by the Father.
Again, please know how much I love you, and that you are reading and deciding to take this jump that is going to change EVERYTHING in you! You will no longer exist, but you will live! I know this might sound strange or weird; but, as we continue on this journey together, you will see.
"But you are God’s chosen treasure, priests who are kings, a spiritual 'nation' set apart [peculiar] as God’s devoted ones. He called you out of darkness to experience His marvelous light, and now He claims you as His very own. He did this so that you would broadcast His glorious wonders throughout the world." -1 Peter 2:9 TPT
